The good, bad, interesting

Failed at interview so I shan't be working for the winter. I think that looking back I am glad that I failed but they had already seen the ideal person - that was obvious.

I hope that the media campaign is now over for a while after the live work on telly today. It's interesting to see the process of live broadcasting as it happens from behind the camera. Live telly is not half as live and unrehearsed as you would believe. The local family sat and watched it at home up the road and have videoed what actually went out. The grandson was properly disrespectful as expected to celebrity grandparent. I do hope that all his friends at school recognised me so that he got some stick Wink

How the media makes the news

I'm not sure quite how I got to know a project case worker at one of the major charities but anyhow - it ended up with me saying no problem I'd join in her campaigns on basic pension income. So far - one national newspaper which was spotted by an old employer which led to teasing and one appearance on local tv which has led to some reaction - teasing, agreement, disagreement, discussion. But if it generates discussion then no problem. The local paper has picked up on the face - the local reporter recognised me and already knew the telephone number. It looks as if there will be a piece locally. Not too sure how factual it will be though. There is a possibility of going national next week with the telly if no other news gets in the way. That should be it. Then I can go back under my stone.

Meantime I have a handyman coming on Wednesday from a local scheme that is free to OAPs to sort out some curtains on a high rail in an awkward place.  And I might have to go for a job interview this week which will mean that I shan't be able to go to college on Thursday. Ho hum. I suppose that working over winter will save me paying for the heating at home.

Flipping freezing out there

Went down to the allotment with the latest for the compost heap, to feed the birds and to take up the family on the offer of taking some pictures as I don't own a camera. It was flipping freezing out there despite the sun shining brightly from a clear blue sky.

Anyway the pictures are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/flohewitt/ - mostly taken with a mobile phone as someone took the digital camera for a ride, fell off the bike and bust it. No questions asked, no trouble caused in this case I think.

The son and wife have kittens

Have no idea what possessed two busy Londoners in an upstairs flat to acquire a couple of kittens but they have done. Admittedly it is a large flat and there is a back stairs to a garden. Whatever. The pair of kittens do look good fun though.

Apparently Meize is the German for moggy - so the kittens are Moggy and Moggy ......................

Someone has nicked a week

Oh heck I still have homework to do for tomorrow morning at college. Who pinched the week? I want to go down the allotment. Went out yesterday after doing a wedge of homework but am still not caught up. Have to be in on Tuesday morning for workmen at home but then it will be too late for this lot of homework.

Asked the family about the Meatloaf concert at Newcastle last Wednesday night yesterday. Apparently it was as bad as the rumours I had heard.  Had decided to leave things a couple of days to let them reflect before I asked.

Rarely does the daughter complain about money wasted but she did this time so it must have been bad.

Talked to the housing officer on Friday (had just sorted out a bag of onions, two rotten and place stank) but I don't think that it will help with the kitchen. I only wanted to know where to put anything as the second largest cupboard is completely taken up with gas meeter and its pipes, as well as a redundant gas pipe. She could see the pan stand in the sitting area and food processer/toaster on the fridge top so understood the question. No chance of a double glazed back door either due to the housing association having spent the money for upgrades for this year and probably next is planned for elsewhere. She stood next to it and said that it was letting in a draught. She was lucky it wasn't raining a hooligan.  Still if they have too many repairs for the money you can't always get yours done. She looked a bit shocked though when I said I would have to go back to work to pay for one for myself then. But that seems to be the only route.

Never Ask a question ...

I was quietly sitting in a corner doing what the exercise sheet said in a class at college on Publisher - yes I can be good sometimes - when a little question came to mind. We were doing invitations to parties and I just wondered what would happen if I wanted to do one on two sides and fold in over. That seems to be next week's lesson. However the tutor showed me to shut me up. Then he realised that the oldest lady in the class is 88 today and crept up to say "Do Peggy a card - use that design, change that and that and print it out on the colour printer". Two minutes later I gave it to him and said he could do the origami and fold it up. We all signed it and sang Happy Birthday. I shan't be able to put that in my portfolio and get marks for it though!!  Extra work for asking a question ............

That'll learn me.
